You live at the top floor of an apartment. There’s no way pests can reach you now, right? Wrong. So how can rodents get on your floor when you’re so far off from the ground? The answer is simpler than what most people would think.
A rat’s nose is an incredibly sensitive organ. Every object, every surface, every breath of air contains different smells for a rat. Couple that with the ability to smell food from long distances and enter properties through very small holes or cracks, and you start to understand how futile it can be to completely protect your home from these pesky critters.
Rodents are expert climbers and will climb on anything to get what they want. If you have plants next to your building with branches or vines that lie next to windows, then rodents have a way to enter your home. Thus, you need to get rid of this potential entry point for rats. The easiest way is to hedge back trees or vines near your window at least three feet. On the other hand, if you are already hearing scratching sounds at night, it may be time to contact a pest control exterminator.
